HOMO LUDENS

Before the last world war the historian Johan Huizin-
ga wrote, about the comming of a new specimen of
humanity: Homo Ludens, the playfull human. In the
same years the aged Herman Hesse wrote his novel
The Glasbead Game, in which the main character is
called Ludo: I play.


The concept of Homo Ludens is completely different
of the Uebermensch of the facists. Huizinga pre-
dicted that Homo Sapiens would soon be replaced
by machines and robots. Then there would be noth-
left for humans but their feeling, their imagina-
tion and creativity. All the rest would be done better
by computers.
